From today, we will be launching NeoGrid, Germany's first functioning virtual power plant specifically for electric vehicles. But this is just the beginning! The energy transition presents us with significant challenges. To secure a future powered by renewable energy, we need solutions that make the power grid more flexible and efficient. With NeoGrid, we have developed just such a solution. It connects the batteries of electric vehicles and enables flexible, automated control of charging processes via the Ostrom app based on the current grid situation and electricity prices. This not only leads to significant cost savings for our customers but also improves energy efficiency and grid stability.

‍How the Virtual Power Plant NeoGrid Works

The principle of NeoGrid is simple yet brilliant: Our customers can integrate their electric vehicles into the Virtual Power Plant via the Ostrom app. They set their desired charge level, and the optimization of charging times is handled by our AI-based algorithm. After successful NeoGrid participation, trading profits are credited to our customers' wallets in the form of NeoGrid Credits every morning.

But how are these profits generated? Unlike our Smart Charging algorithm which optimizes day-ahead prices, NeoGrid leverages short-term price fluctuations on the continuous intraday electricity market. By taking advantage of these price variations and continuously optimizing charging schedules through AI, NeoGrid not only supports grid stability but also maximizes profits for our customers. This effectively takes Smart Charging to an entirely new level.

Successful Pilot Project and Outlook

We have seen great success in our early testing with our first group of early customers! Our initial tests were done with Tesla model vehicles, with more and more vehicle brands being added starting in the first quarter of 2025.

Customers can earn up to 300 euros per connected device over the course of a year by participating in NeoGrid. In the future, household with a storage system, an electric car, and a heat pump can generate up to 1,000 euros annually. And with the planned integration of bidirectional charging – with legal permission – profit could rise even further.
